Birdies Dart League Rules

Season Overview

A Cricket darts league run through DartConnect at Birdie's Sporting Club. Season 2 (Spring 2026) runs 8 weeks with 26 players across 3 divisions. Every player plays a unique opponent each week, with a composite leaderboard spanning all divisions for playoff seeding and handicaps.

Goal: Climb the leaderboard. Top players qualify for playoffs.

Divisions

Division Skill Range
Division 1 Top tier (ranks 1–8 by pre-league MPR)
Division 2 Middle tier (ranks 9–17)
Division 3 Newer / developing players (ranks 18–26)

Divisions are for context and seeding. The composite leaderboard ranks all 26 players together — there is no separate per-division leaderboard. DartConnect runs scheduling and match tracking as a single shared shell.

How Scoring Works

The Composite Score

Your position on the leaderboard is determined by your composite score:

Composite Score = (Leg Win% × 0.5) + (MPR × 20)
Component What It Measures Max Contribution
Leg Win% Competitive success (legs won) 50 points (100% leg win rate)
MPR Skill level (marks per round) ~50 points (2.5 MPR)

Legs Won

Every leg you win counts. Your Leg Win% is calculated from total legs won vs. total legs played.

Match Result Your Legs Opponent Legs
Win 2-0 (sweep) 2 0
Win 2-1 2 1
Lose 1-2 1 2
Lose 0-2 (swept) 0 2

Sweeping matters. Dominant wins are rewarded.

Example after 6 matches:

Match Format

Every leg counts. Win your legs and improve your MPR.

Full Example

After 6 weeks, two players compare:

Player A Player B
Matches 4-2 4-2
Legs Won 9 of 15 (60%) 8 of 12 (66.7%)
Avg MPR 1.4 1.2
Leg Win% 60% × 0.5 = 30.0 66.7% × 0.5 = 33.3
MPR 1.4 × 20 = 28.0 1.2 × 20 = 24.0
COMPOSITE 58.0 57.3

Player A edges ahead — same match record but higher MPR tips the balance.

How the League Runs

DartConnect

DartConnect manages the league: scheduling, match scoring, and standings. All matches are played and recorded through the app. The site at birdiesdartleague.nyc shows the live schedule and leaderboard.

Composite Leaderboard

After each week's matches, the composite score is calculated from DartConnect data:

  1. Pull per-match MPR for each player from match recaps
  2. Calculate each player's season Leg Win% and average MPR
  3. Apply the composite formula
  4. Publish the updated leaderboard

The leaderboard spans all three divisions and determines playoff seeding and handicaps.

Missing Players (No-Shows)

If you miss your match

If your opponent doesn't show

You receive the automatic 2-0 win.

MPR credit on no-show matches

Both players receive an MPR sample for the no-show match so neither one's MPR average gets distorted (positively or negatively) by a missed game.

Playoffs

Qualification

Top players by composite score qualify for playoffs (specific cutoff TBD).

Format

Handicaps

Lower-seeded players receive mark handicaps based on composite score difference:

Composite Difference Handicap (Lower Player)
0 – 5 pts No handicap
6 – 12 pts +1 mark on 20, 19
13 – 20 pts +1 mark on 20, 19, 18
21+ pts +2 marks on 20, 19

Mark-based handicaps feel organic — they speed up the lower player's game without artificial point inflation.

Prizes

Place Prize
1st Cash prize + Champion plaque + Trophy
2nd Cash prize + Silver medal
3rd Bronze medal

Prize amounts TBD based on entry fees collected.
